Co-hosted by GIFT and the International Budget Partnership with the Open Government Partnership and Korean Development Institute School of Public Policy and Management (KDIS) , the session presented a comprehensive review of recent evidence on the impacts of fiscal openness, based on published academic research and other rigorous policy-oriented research covering the period from 2015 onwards. The review, authored by Joachim Wehner and Martin Haus, constitutes an update to the work produced in 2015 by Wehner and Paulo de Renzio, The Impacts of Fiscal Openness: a Review of Evidence (here). In that study, authors identified the impacts of fiscal transparency and public participation in budget management, budget implementation, policy outcomes and development indicators, as well as other accountability topics that are relevant for IBP, GIFT and OGP’s agendas. The session also featured ideas for future research on the impacts of fiscal openness.
